Take Sukhumvit Road south past Jomtien and turn right at the Ban Amphur sign - most tourists heading to Rayong drive right past. This working beach comes alive at sunset when fishing boats return and families set up barbecues on the sand. The local temple, Wat Photchaiyanaram, hosts a small market on Buddhist holidays. Stay at Baan Talay Homestay (600-800 baht) run by a former fisherman's family who can arrange boat trips to nearby coral reefs.
