Koh Mak
A car-free eco-island where the only noise is the waves — cycling between coconut plantations, rubber trees, and empty beaches.
About this place
Koh Mak is Thailand's eco-tourism success story. This small island (16 sq km) in the Trat archipelago has deliberately limited development: no cars, no jet skis, no banana boats, no loud bars. Instead, you'll find family-run guesthouses, beachfront bungalows for 500-1,500 THB, and a pace of life that moves at bicycle speed. The beaches are never crowded — even in peak season you'll have stretches to yourself. Kayaking between Koh Mak and neighboring Koh Kham is a popular half-day activity. The island grows its own rubber, coconuts, and seafood. It's accessible by speedboat from Laem Ngop pier near Trat.
