Longboat Racing Festival - Nan
Cheer for traditional longboat teams racing down the pristine Nan River in ornately decorated vessels while riverside communities celebrate with local Lanna cultural performances.
About this place
Held in late October after the rainy season, this festival features boats carrying up to 50 rowers each in races that date back over 600 years. The boats are carved from single tree trunks and decorated with mythical naga serpent heads. The best viewing spots are from Nan Riverside Art Gallery or rent a longtail boat to follow the action. Stay at traditional teakwood guesthouses in Nan's historic quarter and try the local specialty kanom jeen nam ngiaw noodle soup sold by riverside vendors.
