Phang Nga Bay
Towering limestone karsts rising from emerald water — including the famous James Bond Island — best explored by kayak or longtail boat.
About this place
Phang Nga Bay is one of Thailand's most dramatic natural landscapes. Over 40 limestone karsts and small islands dot the bay, many with hidden lagoons (hongs) accessible only by kayak through sea caves at the right tide. Ko Tapu (James Bond Island, from The Man with the Golden Gun) is the most photographed spot, though nearby Ko Panyi — a Muslim fishing village built entirely on stilts — is more culturally interesting. Day trips depart from Phuket or Phang Nga town; the latter is cheaper and less crowded. Sunset kayaking tours are the best way to experience the bay.
