Similan Islands
World-class diving and snorkeling at nine pristine islands, open only November through May to protect the marine ecosystem.
About this place
The Similan Islands National Park comprises nine islands (plus two Surin islands further north) with some of the best dive sites in the world. Visibility regularly exceeds 30 meters, and the marine life includes manta rays, whale sharks (seasonal), leopard sharks, and vast coral gardens. Richelieu Rock, nearby, is consistently ranked among the world's top 10 dive sites. Day trips from Khao Lak are the most common access; serious divers opt for 2-4 night liveaboard trips that cover more remote sites. The park closes June through October to allow marine recovery.
