Wat Chedi Luang

Chiang Mai, Thailand

Home to a massive 15th-century ruined chedi and the revered Lak Muang (city pillar), this temple complex embodies Chiang Mai's ancient Lanna heritage.

About this place

The partially collapsed 80-meter tall chedi was once the tallest structure in ancient Chiang Mai before an earthquake in 1545. The temple houses a replica of the Emerald Buddha and features beautiful Lanna-style architecture. Join the evening monk chat sessions (daily 6-8 PM) where English-speaking monks discuss Buddhism and Thai culture with visitors.
