Wat Tham Mangkon Thong (Golden Dragon Cave Temple)
Enter through a massive dragon's mouth carved in stone to discover underground chambers filled with thousands of Buddha images and a subterranean lake.
About this place
The temple's highlight is a 15-meter golden reclining Buddha housed in a cathedral-sized cavern, but few visitors discover the hidden passage behind it leading to an underground lake where monks perform water blessing ceremonies. Visit on Buddhist holy days (full moon nights) when the caves are lit with hundreds of candles. Wear waterproof shoes as some passages involve wading through shallow water.
